The Gilded Age Garden Party is a fundraising event for Historic Kansas City held to celebrate our 50th Anniversary and to generate critical funds to support the sustainability of the organization.
The Garden Party will take place on Saturday, September 28th at 3223 Gladstone Blvd., across the street from the Robert A. Long’s Corinthian Hall. The event will include a range of cocktails, good food, music, and more.
Mr. and Mrs. Stevens were both from “old” money back east. They built their dream home on Gladstone Boulevard along what was known as “Judges Row” in 1902. In 1908 Robert Long started acquiring the entire block across the street from the Stevens home to build his magnificent Corinthian Hall. Long came from somewhat humble beginnings in Shelbyville KY, built an empire in the Lumber business. Mr. Long also wanted to acquire the entire block across the street south for his formal gardens, but the Stevens home occupied the corner. He approached the widow Mrs. Stevens. The widow Stevens said NO. And the feud began.
